Jesus in Communion: Luke 24.28-35

To fully get the gist of holy communion, you must begin with the fact that it is all about Jesus. Jesus is the inviter, the host, blesser and the blessing in communion. In this passage Jesus is not only in communion, he is communion.

1. Jesus leads in the communion. v. 30
Even though Jesus is in someone else's home and at someone else's table, he takes the lead in communion. He is always the one that we are to follow.

2. Jesus reveals himself in communion. v. 31
It is as Jesus is leading the communion celebration with these disciples that he makes himself known. Our anticipation should be that as experience the fellowship of our community in communion, we should expect fellowship with Jesus as well.

3. Jesus stirs our hearts in communion. v. 32
Just as these disciples recognized that Jesus was working in their lives, we can plan on our hearts being stirred. Jesus will lift us emotionally and renew us spiritually as we share in communion.

4. Jesus empowers us to witness in communion. v. 34
No matter what our disposition before, we can know that when we have been with Jesus, when we have dined at his table, we will be energized. Our sharing, witnessing and faith will be inspired by the food of Christ's table.
