The Light That Guides: Matthew 2.1-12

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. Matthew 2.10

The Wise Men, Kings, Magi understood a few things about doing God's will.

They were looking for God's work. (v. 2) When they saw the light in the sky, they knew that it had a deeper significance than just another star. They were prepared to hear from God. They were expecting him to reveal himself. They were always ready to hear, see and follow God's will and work.
     *They stayed diligent.

They followed God wherever he led. (v. 9) Even when Herod sent them away, the Wise Men kept focused on their purpose. Their first inclination on leaving the king was to look for the sign from God. They followed God to a king and then to a barn. They were going wherever God led them and without any limits.
     *They stayed focused.

They rejoiced, worshiped and gave. (vv.10-11) The responses of the Kings is instructive for all of us who would follow Jesus. Those who follow Jesus must first of all rejoice at the opportunity to follow. We must worship when we encounter him. And we must give to him ourselves, our hearts and our resources. This is the pattern of the Magi and it should be ours as well.
     *They stayed humble.

They obeyed God. (v. 12) Even though they had been instructed by Herod to return and inform the king of the location of the Messiah, the Wise Men obeyed God. Sometimes our obedience to God will come in direct contradiction to the wishes or laws of our government. But God must get our whole hearts and our allegiance.
     *They stayed open.

What has kept you from following God? How can you be more diligent in listening and following?

Absolutely has to be busyness. Sometimes I just get too involved in other things & before I know it, God is in the background. Concentration on His word & more diligent prayer would be the best way for me to stay focused.
