Not in Polite Company: Marks of a Marriage- 1 Corinthians 7.1-9

The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife. (NLT)

1 Corinthians 7.3-4

The Biblical precedents for marriage are great…

Ø Adam and Eve- Genesis 2.23-24

Ø Jacob and Rachel- Genesis 29.28-30

Ø Isaac and Rebekah- Genesis 24.67

Ø Jesus at a Marriage- John 2.1-4

Ø Christ is Bridegroom to the church- Revelation 21.9

Some things about Christian marriage…

  1. Christ is faithful, even when his bride is not.
  2. Marriage in the church carries responsibilities.
    1. To the body of Christ.
    2. To the couple who are married.
  3. Divorce is always and only an option of last resort.

Steps to Improve (or save) Your Marriage-

  1. Always follow God’s word.
  2. Always keep all of your promises.
  3. Never be alone in a tempting situation.
  4. Confess any temptation to your spouse.
  5. Be unavailable to members of the opposite sex.
  6. Make rules for when you argue with your spouse.
  7. Always put your partner first.

All sins, even divorce, can be forgiven by God.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1.9

Take Away Point-

Husbands and wives must love and respect each other. My needs are not the only ones in my relationship. I am going to do my best to commit my life and my relationship to God’s will.
