Seasons of Church Life: Luke 9.57-62

Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Luke 9.62

Why we worship together:

· Fellowship

· Accountability

· Power in numbers

· Obedience to God’s word

· Edification and growth

Some people are in a church forever.

Others are only for a season.

Still others change churches every 1-4 years.

We are expected to:

1. Reach new people. (Matthew 28.19)

Go and make disciples of all the nations.

2. Care for those who are here. (Ga. 6.2)

Bear one another’s burdens, and so

fulfill the law of Christ.

3. Call those who have left. (Hebrews 12.25)

We [shall] not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven.

Excuses for leaving the church:

· “Someone hurt my feelings.”

Response: Make peace.

· “My friends go somewhere else.”

Response: Wish them well; Invite them here.

· “I’m too busy.”

Response: Work on priorities.

· “I like the music/worship somewhere else.”

Response: Change music; Value current worship.

· “I need to be fed.”

Response: Recognize being fed.

Take Away Point-

I am in this church for this season.

I am committed to the health of

My spiritual life,

My congregation,

My future.
