Matthew 18.15
There is a long history of accountability in the church.
- Jesus held the disciples accountable.
- Paul had followers and helpers who were held accountable.
- The Methodist movement was built on accountability.
The Christian life necessarily includes accountability.
We support one another in…
Prayer-
Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5.17
Bible Study-
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. Colossians 3.16
Fellowship-
They continued in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship. Acts 2.42
Ministry-
Be watchful, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 2 Timothy 4.5
Accountability includes…
Here are some options for being more accountable.
- Join an existing small group for study, pray, support, learning and accountability.
- Create your own accountability/responsibility system.
- Join an e-ccountability group for online support.
- Join a newly forming fellowship group of Christians.
Prayer Promise
Prayer will be simpler if I am not alone.
Spirituality will be more fulfilling in a group.

I believe we need this kind of accountability. We need encouragement to grow in our faith and we need someone to remind us of that need. All Christians, myself included can be lazy. We can be content or complacent with our lives as they are. We all need this support system - this urging on, to a closer relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Where do you see yourself fitting into the need for accountability? Which of the three options- e-ccountability group, weekly discipleship faith-team, or suppers for six- do you see yourself fitting into?
I think I could fit into any of the 3. But I am a little shy about opening up to anyone, there would have to be a time to become acquainted with the others to be comfortable enough to unmask & truly be accountable. In other words, I need to be able to have trust & reliability built up & I would hope that the others involved would want the same with me.
The e-ccountability group would be the most anonymous since you don't see them face-to-face, even though it would be people that I know. The weekly faith-team would also be okay once the trust is built up. And the supper one would be fine if my other half would be willing, probably easier than the faith-team because of the more relaxing atmosphere of sharing a meal. (Which by the way is a very good thing!)
The four most important things?
Hey, That Girl!! Things change. lol.
