Spiritual Practices: Singing/Sabbath

Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the
Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
Psalm 96.1-2

Singing-

  • Singing is a source of joy and an expression of joy. (v. 1)

  • We are instructed- commanded- to sing. (v. 2)

  • Historically, the church has embraced singing.

  • Singing leads us into the presence of God.

Sabbath-
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Exodus 20.9

  • The idea of 'sabbath' is more important than a particular day of the week.

  • Rest, reflection and restoration in the presence of God are what we should focus on.

  • Sabbath is not only about resting, though. Focus also on activities that are refreshing.

Take Away Point-
The purpose of the disciplines is to grow in faith.
Singing is an important part of spiritual growth-
alone and with others.

Sabbath needs to be a requirement for me.
